How Long Does Facial Rejuvenation Last

With the advancements in technology, skin treatments have slowly adapted to use machine-related treatments as part of one’s skincare treatment program, which of course would include facial rejuvenation. Thanks to technology, we now have more options to carry out a facial rejuvenation, and the options now are laser and surgical facial rejuvenation.

  • Laser Facial Rejuvenation

Laser facial rejuvenation is the process of using light beams for the treatment of wrinkles, scars, pigmentation, and other skin issues. The treatment is carried out by using the light beams on the skin, sometimes in the form of patterns. There are two kinds of laser treatments ‒ ablative laser and non-ablative laser.

Ablative laser

Ablative laser, or CO2 laser, is the pioneer of laser facial rejuvenation. The latest ablative laser, which is also called fractionated CO2, uses the light beams continuously in the form of scanning patterns. The laser results in a wavelength so intense to the point where it can remove the top layer of the skin with as little damage as possible.

Since the process removes a layer of skin on the face, the downtime for ablative laser treatment is pretty long and can range from one to two weeks. During this time, a patient’s face might end up swollen or becomes red.

However, an intense ablative laser session can improve deep wrinkles, scars, and skin texture in one session only. The result of the treatment can last up to three years. If you have a healthy diet and lifestyle, the result can last for five years.

The price of the ablative laser varies, depending on the region and treatment. The price starts from $500 to $2000.

Non-ablative laser

Non-ablative laser, or erbium laser, has the same function as ablative laser but with less downtime and side-effects. Instead of removing the top layer of skin, the non-ablative laser stimulates the heat under the skin.

Due to its milder nature, non-ablative laser’s downtime only ranges from three days to one week. Just like CO2 laser, Erbium laser treatment can last up to three years, and it will last longer with a healthy lifestyle. The price ranges from $500 to $2500.

Just as the name suggests, surgical facial rejuvenation uses surgery for your skin issues. The surgery starts with a facelift, with other surgeries such as eyelid surgery, fat injection, fillers, and skin resurfacing being added later depending on the patient’s requirement.

Since it is a surgery, the treatment will be more costly. A facelift will cost at least $6,000 to $12,000 and sometimes the clinic will also charge for the consultation. The consultation fee ranges from $100 to $150, though some clinics allow you to claim the consultation fee if you have surgery on the same day.

Despite the price, surgical facial rejuvenation can drastically make a person look ten years younger, and the result can last up to fifteen years. Contrary to popular beliefs, after surgery, the downtime is only for two weeks.

The two types of facial rejuvenation have different methods and results and as such this gives more choices to the patient, as the patients can select their type of treatment according to their budgets and requirements.
